EMC’s Women’s Empowerment Initiative is designed to support immigrant women—particularly those from equity‑deserving and BIPOC communities—by addressing the interconnected barriers that affect health, economic participation, and overall well‑being. The initiative combines women’s health education with information on labour market participation, empowering women with the knowledge and confidence needed to make informed decisions about their health, careers, and financial futures.
In collaboration with University of Alberta health professionals, including Obstetrics and Gynecology residents, and experienced professionals from the BIPOC community, EMC delivers culturally responsive and accessible women’s health education in safe, trusted community settings. These sessions focus on improving health literacy, reducing systemic barriers to care, and supporting preventive health practices among immigrant and newcomer women.
Beyond health education, the Women’s Empowerment series takes a holistic approach by offering workshops that support personal growth and economic independence. Past sessions have included mental and physical wellness workshops, financial literacy, and beauty and self‑care workshops, recognizing the importance of confidence, self‑esteem, and practical life skills in women’s empowerment and long‑term integration.
